Ninth Annual Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness Raises $140,000

September 28, 2010

The message at the Ninth Annual Saint Clare's Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness was clear: we are here to help others and deliver great healthcare to those who need it the most. More than 2,000 people participated in the Walk, held Sunday, September 19 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Rockaway, NJ, and the event raised $140,000 to support breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.

"We walk to guarantee that we can put cancer on the run," said Walk Co-Chairwoman Donita Judge.

Proceeds from the Walk support Cancer Care at Saint Clare's, allowing Saint Clare's to enhance the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Funds raised from this year's event will be used to purchase a new ultrasound machine for breast imaging, and to create a gowned waiting area for patients at Saint Clare's Imaging Center at Parsippany Commons.

Randi Mitchell, the Walk's survivor keynote speaker and a Saint Clare's employee, said, "It was because of fundraisers like this walk that the equipment was available at the facility where my diagnosis was made." Mitchell is currently undergoing radiation treatments at Cancer Care at Saint Clare's.

President and CEO Les Hirsch attributed the success of this year's walk to an increased effort in getting the word out about it. "I don't think there's any of us that hasn't had a relative or friend touched by cancer," Hirsch said.

The Township of Rockaway and its mayor Louis Sceusi, the Hilton Garden Inn of Rockaway, and countless other generous sponsors – including the Walk's lead sponsors, ADD Systems, TD Bank and WMTR/WDHA – were instrumental in the efforts to make the 9th annual Walk possible.

Saint Clare's Foundation is pleased to offer special thanks and congratulations to the following individuals for their contributions to Saint Clare's and its Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness:
